hi.
I’m BEA PILA.
DESIGNER, AUTHOR & PIONEER of the DESIGN ENLIGHTENMENT MOVEMENT
Interior design has been a full out joy ride that became second nature to me at a very young age; as natural as breathing. From revamping my room at age twelve, to landing my first commercial project, to conjuring up some of the grandest dream homes, I’ve always been in awe of how design can transform the way we feel.
At heart, I believe in spaces being an expression of a person’s journey through life; one that welcomes and encourages the very things we love. For me, that’s drafting, space planning, designing furniture, dancing ballet and cooking for my large family.
My mission is to bring authenticity, alignment and soul to interiors. It’s not just discovering the “what.” The “why” is the key to unlocking the awareness and path to our true selves and fulfilling lives.

EARTHY & ELEGANT
with a flair for
ENTERTAINING
Art is frequently used in interior design to elevate the aesthetic, but it’s rare to have access to a collection of museum quality pieces for placement in a home. Such was the inspiration for this waterfront villa. A classical style base supported the exterior architecture, yet contrasted with modern twists for a sophisticated framework to highlight artworks and landscape views. Two steps into the front foyer wows with marble slab flooring pieced so seemingly perfect in a diamond-shaped ripple as if nature intended to design it that way. Furnishings make a statement with their shape versus their patterns, a blend of irons, woods, and clean fabrics provided a masculinity and maturity, and luxe accent wallpaper added texture and sophistication. Opportunities for play are plentiful, as is relaxation both indoors and out. A favorite corner of the house is the the wine room, modeled after an old cellar resurrected with high-tech materials.

ECLECTIC, ARTISTIC,
& unafraid of
COLOR
My personal sacred space created with my architect husband, Carlos Gonzalez-Ochoa. We decided to build our dream home from the ground up, but we were afraid of the loss of character that new construction can sometimes bring. Thus, we created a “new old home” that showcases high design, balanced with comfort and durability allowing us to effortlessly enjoy living within. Heavily influenced by the Tuscan villas my husband and I frequented during our most cherished travels together, modern comforts were contrasted with distressed elements. Open style rooms flow into one another to maximize every nook and corner, carefully arranged in lifestyle vignettes that encourage our favorite past times. The decor pays homage to our native Cuba with an eclectic mix of patterns, colors, and textures, vintage finds, and treasured collections we’ve acquired over the years.

COOL & CALM tones
with CUBAN ROOTS
Newly empty nesters, this couple desired a home that would promote what they loved most: entertaining friends and family. Architectural-wise, space was strategically reduced in some rooms to maximize the square footage of few select “sacred” areas, including outdoor terraces and master bedroom- we often joked that there was more furniture outside than in! An open kitchen easily progresses to the breakfast area, bar, and ultimately the family room, keeping people together in a comfortable setting. Contrastingly, the living room was transformed into an intimate lounge complete with a wine cellar embedded into the staircase frame. A fusion of decor styles strikes with modern and fresh effects, yet exudes a warmth to compliment the homeowners’ energy of comfort and love.
